Points Rummy is the fastest format of Indian rummy. One deal, one winner, and every point carries a fixed rupee value. This guide walks you through the rules so you can join a table on Gold Rummy with confidence.
Objective
Arrange all 13 cards into valid sequences and sets. At least one sequence must be a pure sequence (no joker). The first player to declare a valid hand wins the deal.
The deal
Each player receives 13 cards. The remaining cards form the closed deck; the top card is turned face-up to start the open deck. A joker (printed or wild) is also selected for the deal.
Sequences and sets
- Pure sequence — three or more consecutive cards of the same suit without a joker.
- Impure sequence — consecutive cards of the same suit that may use one or more jokers.
- Set — three or four cards of the same rank but different suits. Jokers may be used in sets.
Scoring
Face cards (K, Q, J) and Aces count as 10 points each. Number cards count face value. Jokers count as 0. The winner scores 0; every other player scores the total value of ungrouped cards (capped at 80 per player in most cash tables).
Quick tips for new players
- Prioritise a pure sequence early — without it your hand is invalid.
- Watch discarded cards; they reveal what opponents are collecting.
- Drop early if your hand is weak — a mid-game drop costs fewer points than finishing with a high total.
- Use jokers to complete impure sequences, not to patch pure ones.
